Theory: How the worlds smartest people solve complex problems

TL;DR: “What does not kill me makes me stronger” They artificially induce depression to reach a higher state once they stop doing what depresses them. This is the bottom line. In the theory I find evidence, and I am not using the scientific method ūüėČ

Here is a theory to consider. Please note this theory is under constant revision as new evidence and indicators appear. This theory will most likely never reach final version. A final version would require unlimited amounts of data. I cannot handle that much ūüôā

I found preliminarily that highly intelligent people  (IQ 130+) can be described as following:
-They do more drugs than people with lower IQ (They understand that some drugs such as LSD, Cannabis and Psilicybin can remove anxiety.)

-They tend to binge-drink (Enough alcohol seemingly turns of some of their thinking patterns “Mind Break”)

-They are night owls and stay up very late to work undisturbed (subconsious blocking of external input and interuptions, anxiety induced thought patterns and analytical thinking keeps them awake)

-They have less sex than people with a lower IQ (they have more self-control than people with lower IQ)

-They have the capability to induce change in the world.

-They seem to be following the curve of manic depression.

-They seem to have an increased spiritual connection.

-They are the only ones who can actually change the world. (you must read this book or extract the gist to understand this postulation)

After reading up on alot of geniuses through time, I started to see some interesting patterns emerging on how these people operate and create their great works of art, music, software.. you name it.

They seem to get themselves into deep depression. Dream theater Wither: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dream+theater+wither+lyrics

“So I wither and render myself helpless
I give in and everything is clear
I breakdown and let the story guide me
I wither and give myself away”

When they stop doing whatever they are doing to depres themselves, they will have extreme motivation to do whatever it is they want. This is how great entrepreneurs/artists/musicians work. They create alot in a very short time and then burn out. What goes up (emotional state), must come down though and that is where they need to moderate. (Moderation in nuclear physics means to slow down the neutrons to hit the nuclei at the correct speed to split the atom. What interesting coincidence. Equilibrium in Microeconomics? Life is about balance? I guess, but if you want to create something amazing, not so..

When they get back up, they make a U-turn and write very different music. If you think this is a depressive song, you are wrong, he reached a stage of epihany, at least according to my theory:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTDcAkSjuzc

They say, “Life is too short,”
“The here and the now”
And “You’re only given one shot”
But could there be more,
Have I lived before,
Or could this be all that we’ve got?

If I die tomorrow
I’d be all right
Because I believe
That after we’re gone
The spirit carries on

Dream theater depicts the observation of someone else crashing 3) heading towards 4) Crash and burn “Crisis of meaning” as such:¬†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PSGNx6vbJk¬†he is aware she is on her way down and about to crash.

The text reveals the following:
He helplessly stands by
It’s meaningless to try
As he rubs his red-rimmed eyes
He says I’ve never seen her get this bad

Even though she seems so high
He knows that she can’t fly
and when she falls out of the sky
He’ll be standing by

For highly intelligent people 4) Crash and burn is where they want to go. They use drugs to go there. (I consider alcohol a drug) They will recover and rise above their previous level and create theories, inventions and music, art… etc.

Aerosmith amazing: (everyone who had a depression know the empty feeling surrounding the heart:¬†https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=aerosmith+amazing+lyrics Steven Tyler opts to call this “desperate hearts” this song has nothing to do with love, but the empty feeling surrounding the heart during major depression. Ask around to verify. Impulsiveness is to follow, hence they conduct all those impulsive dangerous acts in the video. (No Fear)

While in crash and burn mode, friends will be rejected, solitude will be sought for, information will be blocked. Information that is NOT relevant to keep focus on the heavy thoughts that occour during major depression, will be ignored.

For very smart people, who know how to “abuse” these drugs, and go down below “Crisis of meaning” and ¬†get their high ( 5 Extreme optimism) where they can kick down doors (do whatever it takes) and magic starts happening the graph looks like this:
epiphany
4 steps to the Epiphany. (Steve Blank)

In DSM this behaviour is consistent with “manic depressive” patients. However, if you induce this state manually you are most likely not in that category, you are just smart enough to figure out what really works. I would stick to natural remedies and absolutely avoid alcohol. What DSM forgest to mention is (6 or Epihany) why is that so?

A new study has shown that even minute quantities of alcohol is damaging. But do they not always change their mind about that?

There used to be a belief that alcohol is good for certain heart problems. This has now been proven wrong.

So.. Alcohol won’t fix a broken heart! How could it? Alcohol is not a solution, it is a distillant.

If they¬†are already depressed over¬†something, they will depress themselves¬†more. Once they¬†stop depressing themselves they¬†will be “better”. Do not kill yourself though! You did this to yourself, only YOU can get yourself back up. Only you can force yourself out of your comfort zone of depression and anxiety. “Between stimulus and response there is an action” – Derived from Stephen R. Covey 7 habits.

Addendum 12/14-2014: Meditation

After having had very fruitful talks with people in my environment, I have come to the conclusion that meditation may also help people recieve a sense of balance in their lives, subsequently increasing focus and productivity. I have yet to test this out, and untill I get clear beneficial evidence personally, I am going to be abit pessimistic about this. However, I will give it a shot! I tried meditating when I was very young after having seen American Ninja movies, but that did not work out so well! Maybe now, 20 years later it may work?

I must admit, I am starting to see a patern emerging. I have been working with people in the past who were practicing Yoga, medidation and or martial arts. These people seem to be in much better balance than other people.

I have been guided to this webpage: https://www.headspace.com/

If anyone can come with additional input on where to search for more data on this subject, please drop a comment below, on facebook or on twitter.

I find this part of a song interesting and relevant for this particular theory.

“Once the stone you’re crawling under
is lifted of your shoulders.
once the cloud thats raining over your head
dissapears, the noise that you’ll hear
is the crashing down of hollow years”
Dream Theather – Hollow years.

Remember to Delegate control when you are done creating. Entrepreneurs do NOT run companies.

If we are forming theories, we need some evidence.

John Lennon seems to agree with this theory. But well he was just a hippie?
“When I find myself in times of trouble… Mother mary comes to me..” Mary Jane = cannabis. “The Beatles, Let it be”
It is suspected that when John Lennon “let it be” meaning, left it alone, he could write more songs.

Update 12/10-14 additional evidence.

Cannabis and magic mushrooms are from nature, ALOT of animals and plants have receptors for cannabiods specifically.

“In 1992, in Raphael Mechoulam‘s lab, the first such compound was identified as arachidonoyl ethanolamine and named anandamide, a name derived from the Sanskrit word for bliss and –amide. Anandamide is derived from arachidonic acid. It has a pharmacology similar to THC, although its chemical structure is different. Anandamide binds to the central (CB1) and, to a lesser extent, peripheral (CB2) cannabinoid receptors, where it acts as a partial agonist. Anandamide is about as potent as THC at the CB1 receptor.[45] Anandamide is found in nearly all tissues in a wide range of animals.[46] Anandamide has also been found in plants, including small amounts in chocolate.[47]

Now we need more evidence, eventually we might get a clearer picture.

Lets take a look at this statement

The threshold for¬†‚Äúchanging¬†the world‚Ä̬†apparantly lies at IQ130

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi discovered something fairly interesting about IQ when he studied geniuses
‚ÄúNoone with an IQ less than 130 has ever changed¬†the world. The difference between 130 and 170 is neglible.‚ÄĚ All that matters is the effort they put in.

Do not forget to question the validity of IQ. IQ is based on assumptions, it is a theory, not a law. Even laws can change when more data is collected¬†and new evidence is detected. Currently there are multiple theories on “intelligence” you can check wikipedia for a breakdown, then dig deeper.

PS: I do not recommend testing this theory, but it would not hurt to research ūüôā So I guess now all we need is the proper doctor to take care of that research so that we can find a balanced dose of natural remedies to cure depression and anxiety. Maybe we can rid the world of dangerous anti-depressants with INSANE side effects. Side effects which require a new cocktail of toxic unnatural chemicals..

With the blink of an eye you finally see the light

PPS: Theory: Cows in India are holy. But Why? Because Psilycybin fungus grow around Cow dungs. When we were hunter/gatheres they¬†would eat these mushrooms in the “right/equilibrium” dose. It would yield hunters with better vision and better hearing. Thus they became better hunters. And thus the Cow is holy. (Don’t bite the hand that feeds you) Thats the theory at least and it is not far fetched.

The below pictures seem to indicate the above theory to be more correct than false.
