World of Warships – Things that could improve (Carriers)

Carriers were the most powerful warships of WW2… in WOWS… they are the most nerfed… There is a reason there are rarely any cv’s in the game..They are broken..!

I dont know how often it has happened that my ship gets an (unwanted) autopilot command when I box-select multiple plane units, my ship sails away in a direction I dont want it to and suddenly there are 20 enemy ships shooting my ship while I focus on killing his planes or bomb stuff… When they are done bombing, I check my ship and it has sailed itself to doom…

-Planes slow down when under AA attack or fighters shooting at them.
What real planes would do is FULL THROTTLE “but the pilots get scared” that does not matter to the plane at full throttle! It does not get slower because it gets “scared” it is a completely bogus feature! “Oh someone is shooting at us from the ground or rear! lets slow down and present a better target! that is the logical thing to do!!” BULLSHIT!

6 planes gets disturbed by a single CA/BB fighter plane… that is too much! The cruisers already have defensive AA… no need to nerf carriers even more! Remove fighters launched from cruisers, they have enough with a spotter. I highly doubt battle-hardened pilots gets “scared” because of one plane…

Destroyers with defensive AA makes them invulnerable to Carriers bomb and torpedo attacks. That is super carrier nerf…

Strafing is bugged. Sometimes planes go in a zig zag pattern in a direction I did NOT ask them to go… they hit nothing and suddenly teleport..

Torpedo bombers default to return along the path they dropped the torpedoes, then after doing that for a few seconds they fly home. If they drop torpedoes southish, they return northish for a few seconds and THEN they go west home to the carrier if the carrier is west. That is silly and usually causes planes to die.

Teleporting Fighters fighting each other. I dont know how often 1-2 of my fighters has been fighting 1 squad with 6 planes, I send in my 2nd squad to strafe both my own and his planes. However, opponent finishes my planes, his planes then teleport 1-2 km’s away from the fight position. If strafe orders are already given, the strafe will miss as the enemy planes teleported out of the strafe area. Guess what the opponent does… he takes advantage and strafes my planes when they finally stop strafing.

-SHIFT PROBLEM. Sometimes the game thinks i keep shift pressed, when I try to bomb something, it just sets a waypoint. No matter what I do, I cannot get my planes to do what I want… Game over… task-manager, kill world of warships and await the iiiiiiinnnnnnsaaaaane loading times!!

-CPU usage?!? Is WoWS doing heavy calculations in the background? Collaboration with SETI@HOME or Human genome project?!?  I have never seen a game use so much CPU just by sitting still in the harbor/menu… Tom Clancy’s the division uses HALF the amount of CPU when i run around in town with FULL GRAPHICS… WoWs is using 3 cores 100% of the time out of 6. If I set afinity to only use two cores, the game will lag like a maniac. What IS the game doing in the background?

-USN Plane setups. American carriers have shitty plane setups. (Tier 8 example provided)

Give CV pilots the option to configure their carrier. 4 open slots, max 1 torpedo, rest of the 3 slots players own choice on US carriers. With IJN carriers: Limit to max two squads of torps, rest players choice.

-Matchmaking… I am tired of sinking myself with my T8 CV getting into T10 battles.. It is unbalanced! Fix it! Everyone hates it!

-CV credit income  Obvious, fix it!

-More airborne units/more planes pr. squad simultaneously CV’s are handicapped as they can only launch some of their planes. The equivalent BB/CA/DD nerf would be to disable 2/3’s of all guns and torpedo tubes until they have been destroyed.. that is silly and does not reflect reality at all. A CV in WW2 would launch 90% of its compliment, not 1/3 or 1/4th and let the rest sit and await the already launched planes destruction.

  1. Currently the only defense against a strike carrier is an air superiority carrier, there is no defense what so ever to manual torpedo drops, either manual drops need to go or minimum arming distance needs to be increased.

    • Hello Jim.

(I am writing with game knowledge from around February/March as I have quit the game entirely after they messed with strafing.

Well, I agree that they are impossible to evade, but consider a carrier back in ww2 had many more planes avail in air at a time, around three times as many, if we consider current plane squads a replacement/simulation of real conditions in a manageable way (interface, complexity of having 70 planes airborne is not that easily manageable.

At current time you get 6 torp planes coming your way max from a U.S. carrier

In real life you have 78 planes coming your way from a lexington AT ONCE, attempt to dodge 18 torpedoes coming at you at once please… oh, and dont mind the 20 dive bombers and 18 fighters, (the numbers do not add up doe to the reserve of 9 bombers

We can conclude that carriers are handicapped in the game vs. real life.

Now, let us look at Torpedoes from other ships. They have a lead indicator… why?

      Wikipedia on Lexington Loadout:
The Lexington-class ships were designed to carry 78 aircraft of various types, including 36 bombers,[12] but these numbers increased once the Navy adopted the practice of tying up spare aircraft in the unused spaces at the top of the hangar.[13] In 1936, her air group consisted of 18 Grumman F2F-1 and 18 Boeing F4B-4 fighters, plus an additional nine F2Fs in reserve. Offensive punch was provided by 20 Vought SBU Corsair dive bombers with 10 spare aircraft and 18 Great Lakes BG torpedo bombers with nine spares. Miscellaneous aircraft included two Grumman JF Duck amphibians, plus one in reserve, and three active and one spare Vought O2U Corsair observation aircraft. This amounted to 79 aircraft, plus 30 spares.[8]

I do not see battleships having 2/3rd of their guns put in reserve like carriers have their squadrons in reserve (unable to launch them all at once vs. unable to fire all guns at once and explode into space.)

Instead I find myself with having to be psychic and decide if I throw some bombers, fighters or torp planes over board before the next match.

I don’t see battleship guns having to do the same with their ammo when switching to HE… They had AP and HE shells in the magazines.. The lexington does not have all its planes in the hangars.

Why not give the carriers the amount of planes they historically had and limit how many squads can be airborne at once? It will eliminate the need to select loadout before the match, which is, entirely random and luck seems to be required.

So, I always went strike, well knowing the Jap T8 would get one single torp in due to the 100+ AA and he will recover 0-4 of his planes if all squads arrive at the same time. None if he attempts to keep a fire burning. He wont make it, the bomber squads will be peeled down before they drop their unreliable bombs.

I then usually decoyed the enemy fighters with a bomber squad or two while another bomber and a torp would sink the enemy CV with his shitty AA

Anyway, it is late, 02:25 so I think I will hit the sack.

Thank you for your comment and attempt at discussion. Sorry for the late reply. I have neglected my online life the

I am looking forward to more feedback 🙂
